TOP STORYThe authors evaluated the synergistic anti-tumor efficacy of the mTOR inhibitor everolimus in conjunction with nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEFs) against melanoma. The combined treatment of nsPEFs and everolimus gradually decreased cell growth concurrent with nsPEF intensity. [Sci Rep] Full Article | |

PUBLICATIONS(Ranked by impact factor of the journal)DERMAL STEM CELLS & TISSUE REGENERATIONScientists studied the relationship between β-catenin and c-myc during the process of the differentiation of hair follicle stem cells into transit-amplifying cells. Based on their results, the expression of β-catenin can activate the nuclear gene c-myc and regulate the expression of transit-amplifying cell markers K15, K19, a6-integrin and β1-integrin. [Tissue Cell] Abstract SKIN CANCERS & DISORDERSThe aim of this study was to explore the molecular mechanism underlying the high clonal expansion potential of podoplanin-positive A431 cells using Fucci imaging. [Sci Rep] Full Article MHY1485 Ameliorates UV-Induced Skin Cell Damages via Activating mTOR-Nrf2 Signaling The authors studied the activity of MHY1485, a mTOR activator, in ultra violet (UV)-treated skin cells. In primary human skin keratinocytes, HaCaT keratinocytes and human skin fibroblasts, MHY1485 ameliorated UV-induced cell death and apoptosis. [Oncotarget] Full Article Using reduced representation bisulfite sequencing, researchers mapped genome-wide DNA methylation patterns in three cutaneous primary and metastatic melanoma cell line pairs to identify metastasis-related epigenetic drivers. [Oncotarget] Full Article Stromal Senescence by Prolonged CDK4/6 Inhibition Potentiates Tumor Growth Scientists determined how stromal senescence induced by prolonged Palbociclib (PD-0332991) treatment influences melanoma cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo. They extensively compared the phenotypes of fibroblasts triggered to enter senescence via PD-0332991 treatment to those triggered to enter senescence by other, melanoma-relevant signals. [Mol Cancer Res] Abstract Investigators analyzed the gene expression of young and senescent human melanocytes in culture and compared the gene expression data with a dataset from nevi and melanomas. [Pigment Cell Melanoma Res] Abstract The authors first determined the efficacy of Killer-Red adenovirus combined with laser irradiation on human melanoma cell lines in vitro. They used an intradermal xenografted melanoma model in nude mice to determine efficacy of the Killer-Red adenovirus. [Cell Cycle] Abstract Researchers determined whether inhibition of protein kinase C could revert a major process required for melanoma progression and metastasis; i.e. the E- to N-cadherin switch. [BMC Cancer] Full Article Human S100A7 Induces Mature Interleukin1α Expression by RAGE-p38 MAPK-Calpain1 Pathway in Psoriasis Scientists observed that hS100A7 induces mature interleukin 1α expression in normal human epidermal keratinocytes, which is dependent on RAGE-p38 MAPK and calpain-1 as the inhibitors or knockdown of them completely decreased the expression of mature interleukin1α. REVIEWSRecent Highlights in Psoriasis Research This article highlights recent advances in the immunology, epidemiology, and genetics/genomics of psoriasis from 2015 through 2016. Among the themes the authors explore are the identification of antigens in psoriasis, the co-morbidities of psoriasis, and novel integrative approaches to genome-wide association studies. [J Invest Dermatol] Abstract Targeting Macrophage Anti-Tumor Activity to Suppress Melanoma Progression In this review, the authors focus on the anti-tumor activities of macrophages in melanoma and their potential as therapeutic targets in melanoma.
