Investigators observed that blockade of Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) in healthy primary keratinocytes and an epidermal carcinoma cell line resulted in loss of migration, contractility, focal adhesions, stress fibres, and changes in morphology due to reduction in phosphorylated myosin light chain levels. Bleomycin Hydrolase Regulates the Release of Chemokines Important for Inflammation and Wound Healing by Keratinocytes

The authors showed that lowered bleomycin hydrolase levels in keratinocytes resulted in increased release of the pro-inflammatory chemokines CXCL8 and GROα, which were upregulated in skin from atopic dermatitis patients compared to healthy individuals. [Sci Rep] Full Article

Protective Role of Mouse Mast Cell Tryptase McPt6 in Melanoma

Researchers showed that melanoma growth was significantly higher in tryptase-deficient versus wild-type mice. Histochemical analysis showed that mast cells were frequent in the tumor stroma of both wild-type and tryptase-deficient mice, and also revealed their presence within the tumor parenchyma.
