Dietary Glutamine Supplementation Suppresses Epigenetically-Activated Oncogenic Pathways to Inhibit Melanoma Tumor Growth

Investigators showed that dietary glutamine supplementation significantly inhibited melanoma tumor growth, prolonged survival in a transgenic melanoma mouse model, and increased sensitivity to a BRAF inhibitor.

A Novel Mechanism in Wound Healing: Laminin 332 Drives MMP9/14 Activity by Recruiting Syndecan-1 and CD44

By directly recruiting both syndecan-1 and CD44, laminin-332 G45 domain played a major role in regulating mechanisms underlying keratinocyte / extracellular matrix remodelling during wound repair.

Cytotoxic and Genotoxic Effects on Human Keratinocytes Triggered by Sphingomyelinase D from Loxosceles Venom

Researchers investigated the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects caused by Loxosceles laeta venom and sphingomyelinase D on human keratinocytes to better understand the dermonecrosis development mechanism.

    Abstract

Melanoma Stem Cell Maintenance and Chemo-Resistance Are Mediated by CD133 Signal to PI3K-Dependent Pathways

The functional analysis of CD133+ and CD133 cells in vitro and in vivo revealed that melanoma progression and treatment resistance were the consequences of CD133 signal to PI3K pathway.

    Abstract

Phenformin Promotes Keratinocyte Differentiation via the Calcineurin/NFAT Pathway

Researchers demonstrated that phenformin suppressed tumor growth and promoted keratinocyte differentiation in the DMBA/TPA two stage skin carcinogenesis mouse model.

    Abstract

Chondroitin Polymerizing Factor (CHPF) Promotes Development of Malignant Melanoma through Regulation of CDK1

Scientists demonstrated that chondroitin polymerizing factor was up-regulated in malignant melanoma tissues compared with the adjacent normal skin tissues and its high expression was correlated with more advanced T stage.

    CD38 in Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts Promotes Pro-Tumoral Activity

CAF-CD38 promoted migration of primary fibroblasts toward melanoma cells. Further, in vitro paracrine effects of CAF-CD38 fostered tumor cell migration and invasion as well as endothelial cell tube formation.

    Abstract

Geometric Regulation of Histone State Directs Melanoma Reprogramming

Scientists uncovered a relationship between geometric features at perimeter regions of melanoma aggregates, and reprogramming to a stem cell-like state through histone marks H3K4Me2 and H3K9Ac.
