SIRT3 Deficiency Induces Endothelial Insulin Resistance and Blunts Endothelial-Dependent Vasorelaxation in Mice and Human with Obesity
Downregulation of sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) in cultured human endothelial cells increased mitochondrial reactive oxygen species and impaired insulin signaling as evidenced by decreased phosphorylation of Akt and endothelial nitric oxide synthase and subsequent reduced nitric oxide release. PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Oxygen Tension-Controlled Matrices with Osteogenic and Vasculogenic Cells for Vascularized Bone Regeneration In Vivo
Oxygen tension-controlled matrices were coimplanted with rabbit mesenchymal stem cells and peripheral blood-derived endothelial progenitor cells to demonstrate the osteogenic and vasculogenic differentiation of these cells, postseeding on a matrix, especially deep inside the matrix pore structure. [Tissue Eng Part A] Abstract

Quercitrin Treatment Protects Endothelial Progenitor Cells from Oxidative Damage via Inducing Autophagy through Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase
The authors showed that quercitrin treatment reduced the apoptosis of endothelial progenitor cells caused by oxidized low-density lipoprotein in a dose-dependent manner. [Angiogenesis] Full Article

A Novel Anti-Inflammatory Mechanism of High Density Lipoprotein through Up-Regulating Annexin A1 in Vascular Endothelial Cells
High density lipoprotein increased endothelial annexin A1 and prevented decrease of annexin A1 in TNF-α-activated endothelial cells in vitro and in vivo, and the above effects were attenuated after knockdown of annexin A1. [Biochim Biophys Acta] Abstract

The Gas6-Axl Interaction Mediates Endothelial Uptake of Platelet Microparticles
Researchers investigated how vascular Tyro3, Axl and Mer and their ligands may mediate endothelial uptake of plasma-membrane derived microparticles (MPs). The uptake of labeled MPs in the presence of protein S and Gas6 in human aortic endothelial cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells was monitored by flow cytometry, western blotting and confocal/electron microscopy. [J Biol Chem] Abstract | Full Article

Insulin Sensitizers Prevent Fine Particulate Matter-Induced Vascular Insulin Resistance and Changes in Endothelial Progenitor Cell Homeostasis
Because blood vessels are sensitive targets of air pollutant exposure, the authors examined the effects of concentrated ambient fine particular matter on vascular insulin sensitivity and circulating levels of endothelial progenitor cells, which reflect cardiovascular health. [Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol] Abstract

Effect of Vitamin E and Omega-3 Fatty Acids on Protecting Ambient PM2.5-Induced Inflammatory Response and Oxidative Stress in Vascular Endothelial Cells
Scientists investigated the effects of vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids on ambient fine particles (PM2.5)-induced inflammation and oxidative stress in vascular endothelial cells. The underlying mechanisms linking PM2.5 to vascular endothelial injury were also explored. [PLoS One] Full Article

Integrin-Alpha IIb Identifies Murine Lymph Node Lymphatic Endothelial Cells Responsive to RANKL
Investigators showed that integrin alpha 2b, known to be carried by platelets, megakaryocytes and hematopoietic progenitors, is expressed by a lymph node subset of lymphatic endothelial cells, residing in medullary, cortical and subcapsular sinuses. [PLoS One] Full Article

Irisin Increased the Number and Improved the Function of Endothelial Progenitor Cells in Diabetes Mellitus Mice
Investigators showed for the first time that irisin increased the number of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in peripheral blood of diabetes mellitus (DM) mice and improved the function of EPCs derived from DM mice bone marrow. [J Cardiovasc Pharmacol] Abstract

Physical Activity and Progenitor Cell-Mediated Endothelial Repair in Chronic Heart Failure: Is There a Role for Epigenetics?
Researchers review current knowledge of the contribution of endothelial progenitor cells and circulating angiogenic cells to endothelial repair mechanisms in chronic heart failure patients, focusing on the effects induced by exercise training and hypothesizing that some of these effects can be mediated by epigenetic mechanisms. [Mech Ageing Dev] Abstract
