Soluble CD146 Boosts Therapeutic Effect of Endothelial Progenitors through Proteolytic Processing of Short CD146 Isoform
The mechanism of action of soluble CD146 (sCD146) on endothelial colony-forming cells (ECFC) was studied in vitro. The authors showed that sCD146 acts in ECFC through a signalosome, located in lipid rafts, containing angiomotin, the short isoform of CD146, VEGFR1, VEGFR2 and presenilin-1. [Cardiovasc Res] Abstract

Discovery of Novel Peptides Targeting Pro-Atherogenic Endothelium in Disturbed Flow Regions -Targeted siRNA Delivery to Pro-Atherogenic Endothelium In Vivo
Using in vivo phage display approach and the partial carotid ligation model of flow-induced atherosclerosis in mouse, scientists identified novel peptides that specifically bind to endothelial cells exposed to disturbed flow condition in pro-atherogenic regions. [Sci Rep] Full Article

Activated Stat5 Trafficking via Endothelial Cell-Derived Extracellular Vesicles Controls IL-3 Pro-Angiogenic Paracrine Action
Researchers found that interleukin 3 (IL-3) increases extracellular vesicle (EV) release, which is prevented by IL-3Ralpha blockade. EVs released upon IL-3 stimulation were able to induce pro-angiogenic signals as shown by chromatin immunoprecipitation assay performed on the promoter region of cyclin D1 and tridimensional tube-like structure formation. [Sci Rep] Full Article

Interleukin-33 Stimulates GM-CSF and M-CSF Production by Human Endothelial Cells
The authors investigated a possible influence of interleukin-33 on granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and macrophage-CSF (M–CSF) production by human endothelial cells. [Thromb Haemost] Abstract

Proper Autophagy Is Indispensable for Angiogenesis during Chick Embryo Development
Using HUVECs, investigators revealed that cell viability and migration ability changed with the alteration of cell autophagy exposed to RAPA or 3-MA. Interestingly, tube formation assay showed that HUVECs ability of tube formation altered with the change of Atg5, Atg7 and Atg8 manipulated by the transfection of their corresponding siRNA or plasmids. [Cell Cycle] Abstract

Proteome Changes during Transition from Human Embryonic to Vascular Progenitor Cells
Scientists refined an existing method to generate tight vessels by differentiating human embryonic stem cells in CD34+ vascular progenitor cells using chemically defined media and growth conditions. [J Proteome Res] Abstract | Graphical Abstract

Long-Range Enhancers Modulate Foxf1 Transcription in Blood Vessels of Pulmonary Vascular Network
Researchers investigated the lung-specific enhancers of Foxf1 and the Gli binding on the enhancers. They found three evolutionarily conserved Foxf1 enhancers, two of which were long-range enhancers. [Histochem Cell Biol] Abstract

The Influence of Geranylgeraniol on Microvessel Sprouting after Bisphosphonate Substitution in an In Vitro 3D-Angiogenesis Assay
The authors investigated the influence of geranylgeraniol on microvessel sprouting after bisphosphonate-incubation in vitro. Ten experimental set-ups were randomly designed in an in vitro 3D-angiogenesis assay. [Clin Oral Investig] Abstract

A Novel Endothelial-Derived Anti-Inflammatory Activity Significantly Inhibits Spontaneous Choroidal Neovascularisation in a Mouse Model
To elucidate the molecular basis of the therapeutic effects of endothelial cells grown on collagen particles, the anti-inflammatory activity of conditioned medium from these cells was characterized. [Vasc Cell] Full Article

Endothelial Progenitor Cells: Are They Displaying a Function in Autoimmune Disorders?
Studies have been performed to elucidate the role of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in systemic sclerosis and many reviews and articles published on this topic. The authors review the role of EPCs in other autoimmune disorders. [Mech Ageing Dev] Abstract
