    Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound Activates Integrin-Mediated Mechanotransduction Pathway in Synovial Cells
    Scientists examined the mechanotransduction pathway via the integrin/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway in low-intensity pulsed ultrasound exposure on the synovial membrane cells. A possible integrin/MAPK pathway was examined by immunofluorescence and Western blotting analysis with antibodies targeting specific phosphorylation sites on intracellular signaling proteins.     Researchers demonstrate the effects and mechanisms of uremic clearance granules on renal dysfunction and tubulointerstitial fibrosis by regulating extracellular matrix degradation and transforming growth factor-beta1/Smad signaling activity in vivo, compared with enalapril.     LRP4 Induces Extracellular Matrix Productions and Facilitates Chondrocyte Differentiation
    Scientists found that lipoprotein receptor-related protein 4 (LRP4) induced gene expressions of extracellular matrix proteins of type II collagen, aggrecan, and type X collagen, as well as production of total proteoglycans in ATDC5 cells, whereas LRP4 knockdown had opposite effects.     Fibroblast Heterogeneity in the Cancer Wound
    Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) modulate the tumor microenvironment and influence the behavior of neoplastic cells in either a tumor-promoting or tumor-inhibiting manner. These pleiotropic functions highlight the inherent plasticity of fibroblasts and may provide new avenues to understand and therapeutically intervene in malignancies. The authors discuss the emerging themes of CAF biology in the context of tumorigenesis and therapy. [J Exp Med] Abstract

    Soluble Biglycan as a Biomarker of Inflammatory Renal Diseases
    Biglycan, generated by activated macrophages, can enter the circulation and its elevated levels in plasma and renal parenchyma correlate with unfavorable renal function and outcome. The authors focus on the critical role of soluble biglycan in inflammatory signaling in various renal disorders. [Int J Biochem Cell Biol] Abstract
