Targeting Acid Ceramidase Inhibits YAP/TAZ Signaling to Reduce Fibrosis in Mice

Scientists showed that tricyclic antidepressants reduce hepatic fibrosis by inhibiting aCDase and increasing the bioactive sphingolipid ceramide. They demonstrated that targeting aCDase inhibited YAP/TAZ activity by potentiating its phosphorylation-mediated proteasomal degradation via the ubiquitin ligase adaptor protein β-TrCP.

    Galectin-3
Favors Tumor Metastasis via the Activation of β-catenin Signaling in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

The Galectin-3-β-catenin-IGFBP3/vimentin signaling cascade was determined as a central mechanism controlling hepatocellular carcinoma metastasis, providing possible biomarkers for predicating vascular metastasis and sorafenib resistance.

Repositioning of Dimethyl Fumarate for Treating Alcoholic Liver Disease

Investigators demonstrated that dimethyl fumarate significantly upregulated the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) protein level, increased NRF2 phosphorylation, and promoted NRF2 nuclear localization in liver cells.

of Cancer Susceptibility Candidate 4 by the Convertases PC7/Furin Unravels a Novel Secretory Protein Implicated in Cancer Progression

Searching for new substrates of proprotein convertase 7, a quantitative proteomics screen for selective enrichment of N-glycosylated polypeptides secreted from hepatic HuH7 cells identified two human type-II transmembrane proteins of unknown function(s): Cancer Susceptibility Candidate 4 and Golgi Phosphoprotein.

a Novel Liver-Targeted Non-Chain-Terminating Nucleotide for Hepatitis B Virus Cure Regimens

By selectively delivering the 5′-monophosphate to the liver, while retaining the unique anti-hepatitis B virus activity of the 5′-triphosphate, ATI-2173 may provide an improved pharmacokinetic profile for clinical use, reducing systemic exposure of clevudine and potentially eliminating skeletal myopathy.

Time Monitoring of Oxygen Uptake of Hepatocytes in a Microreactor Using Optical Microsensors

The authors investigated the cellular behaviour of three types of hepatocytes, HepG2 cells, HepG2-3A4 cells and primary mouse hepatocytes, towards their exposure to acetaminophen when the availability of oxygen for the cell is systematically varied.

    Students Challenge University-Mandated COVID-19 Agreements

On Saturday, Lauren Pope—a biology Ph.D. student at Stanford University—received an email detailing a “graduate student compact” she’ll be required to sign before she can register for the fall semester. The document lays out expectations for how students will behave on campus given fears of COVID-19 transmission, as well as punishment procedures for those who don’t follow the rules.
