Dynamic Cell Contacts between Periportal Mesenchyme and Ductal Epithelium Act as a Rheostat for Liver Cell Proliferation

In the liver, ductal cells rarely proliferate during homeostasis but do so transiently after tissue injury. Using organoid co-cultures that recapitulated the ductal-to-mesenchymal cell architecture of the portal tract, researchers demonstrated that a subpopulation of mouse periportal mesenchymal cells exerted dual control on proliferation of the epithelium.

Identification of HSC/MPP Expansion Units in Fetal Liver by Single-Cell Spatiotemporal Transcriptomics

Single-cell transcriptomics revealed three transcriptionally heterogeneous hematopoietic stem cell and multipotent progenitor subsets, among which a CD93-enriched subset exhibited enhanced stem cell properties.

Ketogenesis Impact on Liver Metabolism Revealed by Proteomics of Lysine β-Hydroxybutyrylation

Mass spectrometry analysis of the β-hydroxybutyrylome in mouse liver revealed 891 sites of Kbhb within 267 proteins enriched for fatty acid, amino acid, detoxification, and one-carbon metabolic pathways.

Deregulated 14-3-3ζ and Methionine Adenosyltransferase α1 Interplay Promotes Liver Cancer Tumorigenesis in Mice and Humans

Investigators compared methionine adenosyltransferase 1A (MAT1A) interactome in normal versus cancerous livers by mass spectrometry to reveal interactions with 14-3-3ζ. The MATα1/14-3-3ζ complex was critical for the expression of 14-3-3ζ.

Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor Givinostat Attenuates Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis and Liver Fibrosis

Researchers evaluated the therapeutic potential of givinostat, a histone deacetylase inhibitor, in the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in vivo and in vitro.

Trilobolide-6-O-Isobutyrate Suppresses Hepatocellular Carcinoma Tumorigenesis through Inhibition of IL-6/STAT3 Signaling Pathway

Scientists reported a compound, trilobolide-6-O-isobutyrate, isolated from the flowers of Wedelia trilobata with a markedly cytotoxic effect on hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Effects of High Rosuvastatin Doses on Hepatocyte Mitochondria of Hypercholesterolemic Mice

Investigators analyzed the undesirable effects of mild, moderate and high doses of rosuvastatin in CD-1 male mice who received a cholesterol-rich diet, focusing on the morphological and functional changes on hepatocyte mitochondria.

Intercellular Crosstalk of Liver Sinusoidal Endothelial Cells in Liver Fibrosis, Cirrhosis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Scientists summarize the current knowledge of how different crosstalk between liver sinusoidal endothelial cells and other liver cells, including hepatocytes, hepatic stellate cells, macrophoges, immune cells in liver and extra cellular matrix contribute to the physiological function and the progrssion from liver fibrosis to cirrhosis, or even to hepatocellular carcinoma.
