Cancer Cells Produce Liver Metastasis via Gap Formation in Sinusoidal Endothelial Cells through Proinflammatory Paracrine Mechanisms

Researchers found that hepatotoxin-damaged and fibrotic livers gave rise to liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs)-iGap formation, which was positively correlated with increased numbers of metastatic liver foci after intrasplenic injection of Hepa1-6 cells.

Downregulation of SOCS1 Increases Interferon-Induced ISGylation During Differentiation of Induced-Pluripotent Stem Cells to Hepatocytes

The authors utilized patient samples and in vitro cell culture models including induced pluripotent stem cells, hepatocytes-like cells, immortalized cell lines, and primary human hepatocytes. Protein/mRNA expression were measured following treatment with poly(I:C), IFN-alpha (IFNα) and Hepatitis C virus infection.

Hepatic ER Stress Suppresses Adipose Browning Through ATF4-CIRP-ANGPTL3 Cascade

Investigators identified a hepatic endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-induced activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4)-cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (CIRP)-angiopoietin-related protein3 (ANGPTL3) cascade critical for the regulation of adipose browning.

NSUN2-mediated mRNA m5C Modification Regulates the Progression of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Scientists found that HCC tissues had a higher 5-methylcytosine (m5C) methylation level than the adjacent normal tissues. Transcriptome analysis revealed that a major function of the hypermethylated genes participated in the phosphokinase signaling pathways, such as the Ras and PI3K-Akt pathways.

SEL1L-HRD1 ER-Associated Degradation Suppresses Hepatocyte Hyperproliferation and Liver Cancer

Researchers found that the SEL1L-HRD1 complex of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-associated degradation suppressed hepatocyte proliferation and tumorigenesis in mice. Hepatocyte-specific deletion of Sel1L or Hrd1 predisposed mice to diet/chemical-induced tumors.

Muscle Atrophy Phenotype Gene Expression During Spaceflight Is Linked to a Metabolic Crosstalk in Both the Liver and the Muscle in Mice

Investigators compared the transcriptome response of liver and quadriceps from mice on NASA Rodent Research 1, after 37 days exposure to spaceflight using GSEA, ORA, and Sparse Partial Least Square-Differential Analysis.

Treatment Strategies and Mechanisms Associated with the Prevention of NASH-Associated HCC by a Toll-Like Receptor 4 Inhibitor

The authors evaluated the cancer preventive efficacy of TAK-242, an inhibitor of toll-like receptor 4, in a mouse model of HCC occurring in the context of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

Construction of Novel lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA ceRNA Networks Associated With Prognosis of Hepatitis C Virus Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Hub gene expression levels, as well as those of their upstream lncRNAs and miRNAs and associated survival analyses, were conducted using appropriate bioinformatics databases. Predicted target relationships were used to establish putative ceRNA networks for Hepatitis C virus-related HCC.

Cell Death and Inflammation During Obesity: “Know My Methods, WAT(son)”

The authors review how inflammatory responses affect metabolic processes such as energy homeostasis and insulin signaling, focusing mainly on the role of cell death in the adipose tissue as a key player in metabolic inflammation.
