PUBLICATIONS(Ranked by impact factor of the journal)Researchers demonstrated the preparation of DNA aptamer-conjugated peripheral blood mononuclear cells that specifically capture human C-reactive protein. [Sci Rep] Full Article Generation of V α13/β21+T Cell Specific Target CML Cells by TCR Gene Transfer Two recombinant plasmids, T cell receptor (TCR) Vα13-IRES-Vβ21 and TCR Vα18-IRES-Vβ21, were successfully transferred into T cells, and the TCR gene-modified T cells acquired chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)-specific cytotoxicity with the best cytotoxic effects for HLA-A11+ K562 cells observed for the TCR Vα13/Vβ21 gene redirected T cells. [Oncotarget] Full Article Scientists used a novel single-cell T-cell receptor (TCR)αβ multiplex-nested reverse transcriptase PCR to dissect TCRαβ clonal diversity within GLCTLVAML-specific CD8+ T cells in healthy individuals and immunocompromised lung transplant recipients. [Immunol Cell Biol] Full Article Effect of Growth Hormone and IgG Aggregates on Dendritic Cells Activation and T-Cells Polarization Maturation of human monocyte-derived dendritic cells (moDC) upon exposure to native biological products or aggregates was evaluated in vitro. The authors showed that human growth hormone aggregates induced an increased expression of moDC co-stimulation markers, and augmented levels of IL-6, IL-8, IL-12p40, CCL2, CCL3, CCL4 and CXCL10. [Immunol Cell Biol] Abstract Researchers investigated whether autophagy, is dysregulated in CD4+ T cells of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, resulting in disturbed T-cell homeostasis. They demonstrated that the rate of autophagy is significantly increased in CD4+ T cells from RA patients, and that increased autophagy is also a feature of in vitro activated CD4+ T cells. [Eur J Immunol] Abstract B Cells of Multiple Sclerosis Patients Induce Autoreactive Proinflammatory T Cell Responses B cell antigen presentation and costimulation in multiple sclerosis (MS) were studied. Peripheral blood B cells of MS patients showed increased expression of costimulatory CD86 and CD80 molecules compared with healthy controls. [Clin Immunol] Abstract Researchers investigated the effects of I-BET151 on dendritic cell function, including expression of co-stimulatory molecules and cytokines, and capacity for T cell activation. [Mol Immunol] Abstract The authors investigated the relationship between PD-1 expression on the surface of CD4+ T cells and prognosis of patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. [Cancer Med] Abstract Investigators found that compared to that in healthy controls, the frequency of Tr1 cells was significantly increased in diffuse large B cell lymphoma patients, even during complete remission. REVIEWSSenescence of T Lymphocytes: Implications for Enhancing Human Immunity The authors discuss how the induction of senescence alters leukocyte, and specifically T cell, function. An emerging concept is that senescence and nutrient sensing-signaling pathways within T cells converge to regulate functional responses, and the manipulation of these pathways may offer new ways to enhance immunity during aging. POLICY NEWSA recruitment and retention program launched by the Howard Hughes Medical Institution in Chevy Chase, Maryland, aims to reduce barriers for women and under-represented minorities who seek academic-research careers in the life sciences. [Nature Careers] Editorial Investors Flee as Firm Scraps RNA-Interference Drug Candidate A prominent developer of drugs that use RNA interference has abandoned one of its leading candidates amid safety concerns — sending a fresh wave of worry through a field that has long struggled to bring treatments to market. [Nature News] Editorial The Many Shades of European Postdoc Funding Finding the right grant or fellowship to fund a postdoc can be a challenge, and the situation is all the more complex in Europe, where academic systems, career prospects, and living costs vary widely among countries. [Science Careers] Editorial Brexit Government’s Anti-Immigration Stance Spooks UK Scientists UK scientists say they’re dismayed by their new government’s toughened stance on curbing immigration, including ideas to restrict the flow of foreign students and workers.
