    Anti-V1/V3-Glycan Broadly HIV-1 Neutralizing Antibodies in a Post-Treatment Controller

Scientists described a broadly neutralizing antibody B cell lineage elicited in a post-treatment controller that exhibited broad seroneutralization and showed that a representative antibody from this lineage targeted a quaternary epitope in the glycan-V3 loop supersite of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein.

IL-9 Aggravates SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Exacerbates Associated Airway Inflammation

The authors showed, in a K18-hACE2 transgenic mouse model, that IL-9 contributed to and exacerbated viral spread and airway inflammation caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Smoke and Spike: Benzo[a]pyrene Enhances SARS-CoV-2 Infection by Boosting NR4A2-Induced ACE2 and TMPRSS2 Expression

Scientists showed that benzopyrene in cigarette smoke extract facilitated SARS-CoV-2 infection via upregulating angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2).

Increased Neutralization Potency and Breadth Elicited by a SARS-CoV-2 mRNA Vaccine Forming Virus-Like Particles

Researchers applied a mRNA forming vaccine virus-like particles (VLPs) platform to SARS-CoV-2 to evaluate potential improvements. To facilitate the assembly of VLPs, they replaced the native cytoplasmic tail of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein with that of simian immunodeficiency virus.

Removal of Senescent Cells Reduces the Viral Load and Attenuates Pulmonary and Systemic Inflammation in SARS-CoV-2-Infected, Aged Hamsters

Scientists determined whether age-associated cellular senescence contributed to the severity of experimental COVID-19.

Human FcγRIIIa Activation on Splenic Macrophages Drives Dengue Pathogenesis in Mice

To investigate the in vivo mechanisms of antibody-mediated dengue pathogenesis, investigators developed a mouse model for dengue disease that recapitulates the unique complexity of human Fcγ receptors (FcγRs).

YF17D-Vectored Ebola Vaccine Candidate Protects Mice against Lethal Surrogate Ebola and Yellow Fever Virus Challenge

The authors presented YF-EBO, a live YF17D-vectored dual-target vaccine candidate expressing Ebola virus glycoprotein as protective antigen.

Ebola Virus Shed Glycoprotein Is Toxic to Human T, B, and Natural Killer Lymphocytes

To test the whether shed glycoprotein (GP) induces lymphocyte death, scientists cultured primary human B, NK, or T cells with shed GP in vitro. They found that shed GP dependably decreased B, NK, and T cell viability across donors.

Clinical Significance of B7-H3 Expression in Circulating CD4+CD25high T Cells, CD14+ Monocytes, and Plasma for the Progression of HIV Infection

To explore the expression and clinical significance of B7-H3 in HIV-infected patients, researchers investigated the B7-H3 expression pattern and the correlation of B7-H3 expression with clinical parameters of HIV-infected patients with different levels of CD4+ T cells.
