    TOP STORY

Repeated mRNA Vaccination Sequentially Boosts SARS-CoV-2-Specific CD8+ T Cells in Persons with Previous COVID-19

To investigate the kinetics of spike-reactive T cells (TS) from SARS-CoV-2 infection, scientists identified the T cell receptor (TCR) sequences of thousands of index TS cells and tracked their frequency in bulk TCRβ repertoires sampled longitudinally from the peripheral blood of persons who had recovered from COVID-19.

T Cell Responses to SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Vaccination Are Elevated in B Cell Deficiency and Reduce Risk of Severe COVID-19

Researchers evaluated the cellular immune responses after both SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination in patients receiving the anti-CD20 therapy rituximab and those with low B cell counts due to common variable immune deficiency disease.

    Abstract

A Lung-Selective Delivery of mRNA Encoding Broadly Neutralizing Antibody against SARS-CoV-2 Infection

Investigators identified a human monoclonal antibody, 8-9D, with broad neutralizing potency against SARS-CoV-2 variants. The neutralization mechanism of this antibody was explained by the structural characteristics of 8-9D Fabs in complex with the Omicron BA.5 spike.

Effectiveness of VSV Vectored SARS-CoV-2 Spike When Administered through Intranasal, Intramuscular or a Combination of Both

Scientists investigated the immunogenicity and efficacy of a prime-boost immunization regimen administered intranasally, intramuscularly, or combinations of the two.

SARS-CoV-2 Spike Receptor-Binding Domain Is Internalized and Promotes Protein ISGylation in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Cardiomyocytes

Researchers investigated the direct effects of spike receptor-binding domain on human cardiomyocytes differentiated from induced pluripotent stem cells.

Zika Virus Remodeled ER Membranes Contain Proviral Factors Involved in Redox and Methylation Pathways

Scientists isolated ER membranes from Zika virus-infected cells and determined their proteome. 46 host cell factors were enriched in Zika virus-remodeled membranes, several of these having a role in redox and methylation pathways.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Prevent H7N9 Virus Infection via Rejuvenating Immune Environment to Inhibit Immune-Overactivity

ICR mice were pretreated with human umbilical cord (hUC) MSCs and then infected with the influenza H7N9 virus. Weight, survival days, and lung index of mice were recorded.

    Abstract

Cytomegalovirus Infection Facilitates the Costimulation of CD57+CD28− CD8 T Cells in HIV Infection and Atherosclerosis via the CD2–LFA-3 Axis

Researchers demonstrated that CD2 expression on CX3CR1+CD57+CD28− inflammescent CD8 T cells was increased on cells from cytomegalovirus-seropositive people with HIV. In vitro CD2/LFA-3 costimulation enhanced TCR-mediated activation of these inflammatory CD8 memory T cells.

The Immunogenicity and the Safety of the Adjuvanted Glycoprotein E (GE)-Based Recombinant Vaccine against Herpes Zoster (RZV) in Cancer Patients during Immunotherapy

Investigators described the humoral and cell-mediated immune responses in 38 cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors and receiving the glycoprotein E-based recombinant vaccine.

    A New mRNA Malaria Vaccine

Researchers reported a new mRNA vaccine that induced a tailored immune response in the livers of mice via the activation of liver-specific tissue-resident memory T cells, which control early stages of infection and prevent illness.

Aimd Congo’s Deadliest Mpox Outbreak, a New Worry: Virus has Become Sexually Transmissible

The WHO report and a study explored a worrisome possibility: that the strain of virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, far deadlier than the one that drove the global outbreak, is in some cases spreading between sexual partners.
