Chimeric Antigen Receptors of HBV Envelope Proteins Inhibit Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Secretion

Researchers developed multiple chimeric antigen receptors based on single-chain variable fragments, respectively, targeting HBV large and small envelope proteins. Their impacts on hepatitis B surface antigen secretion and HBV infection, and the underlying mechanisms, were extensively investigated.

The Receptor Binding Domain of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron Subvariants Targets Siglec-9 to Decrease Its Immunogenicity by Preventing Macrophage Phagocytosis

Using reverse mutagenesis, the authors found that a phenylalanine-to-serine mutation at position 375 in the spike protein of Omicron to revert it to the sequence found in Delta and other ancestral strains significantly enhanced the immunogenicity of Omicron vaccines.

Quantifying How Single Dose Ad26.COV2.S Vaccine Efficacy Depends on Spike Sequence Features

In the ENSEMBLE randomized, placebo-controlled phase III trial, estimated single-dose Ad26.COV2.S vaccine efficacy was 56% against moderate to severe–critical COVID-19.

Correlates of Protection and Determinants of SARS-CoV-2 Breakthrough Infections 1 Year after Third Dose Vaccination

Scientists evaluated antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 spike and nucleocapsid antigens from Wuhan and variants of concern by Luminex and their role in preventing breakthrough infections 1 year after a third dose of mRNA vaccination, in a cohort of health care workers followed since the pandemic onset in Spain.

Modulating the Immune Response to SARS-CoV-2 by Different Nanocarriers Delivering an mRNA Expressing Trimeric RBD of the Spike Protein: COVARNA Consortium

Researchers evaluated the immunogenicity and efficacy of different rationally designed lipid and polymeric-based nanoparticle prototypes against SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Impact of Mutations on the Stability of SARS-CoV-2 Nucleocapsid Protein Structure

Scientists modeled the complete tertiary structure of native and mutated forms of the N protein using Alphafold2. Notably, the N protein contained three disordered regions.

The Ecto-Enzyme CD38 Modulates CD4 T Cell Immunometabolic Responses and Participates in HIV Pathogenesis

Investigators found that CD38’s extracellular glycohydrolase activity restricts metabolic reprogramming after TCR-engaging stimulation in Jurkat T CD4 cells, together with functional responses, while reducing intracellular NAD and NMN concentrations.

PRMT5 Promotes T Follicular Helper Cell Differentiation and Germinal Center Responses During Influenza Virus Infection

Scientists identified PRMT5 as a critical regulator of CD4+ T follicular helper cell (Tfh) responses during influenza virus infection in mice. Conditional PRMT5 deletion in murine T cells results in almost complete ablation of both Tfh and T follicular regulatory populations.

Th2-Predominant Immune Response Underlies the Pathogenesis of Dengue

The authors investigated and compared the immune response in clinically defined cohorts of Dengue with and without warning signs, with the aim of identifying immunological correlates of clinical disease and potential markers of disease severity.

HIV-1 Myeloid Reservoirs – Contributors to Viral Persistence and Pathogenesis

The myeloid cell compartment represents an important target of HIV-1 infection. While myeloid reservoirs may be more difficult to measure than CD4+ T cell reservoirs, they are long-lived, contribute to viral persistence, and, unless specifically targeted, will prevent an HIV-1 cure.

Blockbuster Obesity Drug Leads to Better Health in People with HIV

People with HIV are the latest group to benefit from the new generation of anti-obesity drugs. If early data about the treatments’ effects are confirmed, the drugs could become key to controlling the metabolic problems often caused by anti-HIV medications.
