A Tissue-Intrinsic IL-33/EGF Circuit Promotes Epithelial Regeneration after Intestinal Injury

Utilizing radiation injury to model intestinal pathology, scientists reported that the Interleukin-33 (IL-33)/ST2 axis, an immunomodulatory pathway monitored clinically as an intestinal injury biomarker, regulated intrinsic epithelial regeneration by inducing production of epidermal growth factor (EGF).

Exosomal circEZH2_005, an Intestinal Injury Biomarker, Alleviates Intestinal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury by Mediating Gprc5a Signaling

Investigators screened the expression profile of circRNAs in intestinal tissue exosomes collected from intestinal ischemia/reperfusion mice and identified circEZH2_005 as a significantly downregulated exosomal circRNA.

TET3-Mediated DNA Oxidation Is Essential for Intestinal Epithelial Cell Response to Stressors

Scientists described an essential role for TET3-mediated DNA production of 5hmC to protect intestinal epithelial integrity from pathogenic infection and chemical stressors by promoting the expression of genes involved in Notch and Wnt signaling pathways.

    Abstract

Knockdown of ANXA10 Induces Ferroptosis by Inhibiting Autophagy-Mediated TFRC Degradation in Colorectal Cancer

Researchers conducted transcriptome sequencing on pairs of sessile serrated lesions and corresponding normal control samples. They knocked down and overexpressed ANXA10 in colorectal cancer cells to examine its effects on cell malignant ability.

IGF2BP3 Promotes the Progression of Colorectal Cancer and Mediates Cetuximab Resistance by Stabilizing EGFR mRNA in an m6A-Dependent Manner

Investigators found that insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 3 (IGF2BP3) was upregulated in CRC tissues. Clinically, the elevated IGF2BP3 level was predictive of a poor prognosis. Functionally, IGF2BP3 enhanced CRC tumorigenesis and progression both in vitro and in vivo.

Taraxacum coreanum Nakai Extract Attenuates Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Inflammatory Responses and Intestinal Barrier Dysfunction in Caco-2 Cells

Scientists investigated the protective effects of Taraxacum coreanum Nakai extract on inflammatory responses and intestinal barrier dysfunction in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated Caco-2 cells.

    Abstract

Nrf2 Inhibition Increases Sensitivity to Chemotherapy of Colorectal Cancer by Promoting Ferroptosis and Pyroptosis

Researchers explored the role and mechanism of Nrf2 inhibition in oxaliplatin-based chemosensitivity of colorectal cancer (CRC). In vitro, they applied 4-octyl itaconate to activate Nrf2, and used lentivirus to knock down Nrf2 in CRC cell lines.

Evaluation of the Risk of Diarrhea Induced by Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors with Cultured Intestinal Stem Cells Originated from Crypts in Humans and Monkeys

Investigators evaluated the risk of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI)-induced diarrhea using spheroids of human and monkey crypt-derived intestinal stem cells. Intestinal spheroids exhibited higher toxic susceptibility to EGFR-TKIs than Caco-2 cells.

Tea Polyphenols Protect Bovine Intestinal Epithelial Cells from the Adverse Effects of Heat-Stress In Vitro

Researchers investigated the protective effects of tea polyphenols against heat-stress-induced damage in bovine intestinal epithelial cells and explored the underlying mechanisms.

Emerging Oral Drug Options for Ulcerative Colitis

Despite the availability of a variety of therapeutic compounds and improved management strategies, one-third of ulcerative colitis patients do not benefit from the existing treatments. The authors summarize available evidence on oral drugs, which are now being explored in clinical trials.
