Tissue-Engineered Autologous Grafts for Facial Bone Reconstruction

The authors engineered one of the most geometrically complex facial bones by using autologous stromal/stem cells, native bovine bone matrix, and a perfusion bioreactor for the growth and transport of living grafts, without bone morphogenetic proteins. [Sci Transl Med] Abstract | Press Release

Cryopreserved MSCs are Susceptible to T-Cell Mediated Apoptosis which Is Partly Rescued by IFNγ Licensing

Researchers observed that thawed mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) can suppress T-cell proliferation when separated from them by transwell membrane and the effect is lost in an MSC:T-cell coculture system. Unlike actively growing MSCs, thawed MSCs were lysed upon coculture with activated autologous PBMCs and the lysing effect was further enhanced with allogeneic PBMCs. [Stem Cells] Abstract

Researchers employed angiotensin II type 2 receptor (AT₂R)-null murine mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to characterize how AT₂R affects the differentiation of MSCs into adipocytes.
