Action Potentials: Label‐Free, Accurate, and Noninvasive Electrophysiological Recordings of Human‐Derived Cardiomyocytes

A new approach for recording intracellular signals of outstanding quality and with noninvasiveness is introduced. By taking profit of the concept of mirror charge in classical electrodynamics, the new proposed device transduced cell ionic currents into mirror charges in a microfluidic chamber, thus realizing a virtual mirror cell.

    ERG1
Plays an Essential Role in Rat Cardiomyocyte Fate Decision by Mediating AKT Signaling

Using the rat embryonic stem cells model, investigators showed that ERG1 was crucial in cardiomyocyte lineage commitment via interactions with integrin β1.

    The
Hox Transcription Factor Ubx Ensures Somatic Myogenesis by Suppressing the Mesodermal Master Regulator Twist

Using the Drosophila mesoderm as a model and a comparative genomic approach, the authors identified the Hox transcription factor Ultrabithorax (Ubx) to be critical for the repression of the master regulator Twist.

    ARHGEF3
Regulates Skeletal Muscle Regeneration and Strength through Autophagy

Scientists report ARHGEF3’s role in skeletal muscle regeneration revealed by ARHGEF3-KO mice. These mice exhibited indiscernible phenotype under basal conditions.

    PDGFRα
Mediated Survival of Myofibroblasts Inhibit Satellite Cell Proliferation during Aberrant Regeneration of Lacerated Skeletal Muscle

Investigators showed that the decline in myofibroblasts’ number through inhibition of PDGFRα signaling consequently promoted proliferation of the satellite cells and exhibited improved skeletal muscle remodeling.

    Effect
of Hydrogen Peroxide Concentration on the Maintenance and Differentiation of Cultured Skeletal Muscle Cells

Researchers studied the effects of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the differentiation and maintenance of C2C12 myoblasts. The effects of H2O2 were evaluated by cell viability, total protein concentration, the relative amount of muscle-related proteins, sarcomere structure, and active tension generation.

Lnc-Rps4l-Encoded Peptide RPS4XL Regulates RPS6 Phosphorylation Inhibits the Proliferation of Pulmonary Artery Smooth Muscle Cells Caused by Hypoxia

Scientists hypothesized in this study that an lnc-Rps4l-encoded peptide is involved in hypoxic induced pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) proliferation. The presence of peptide RPS4XL encoded by lnc-Rps4l in PASMCs under hypoxic conditions were confirmed by bioinformatics, immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry.

Cells Control Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Cholesterol Levels by Regulating 24-Dehydrocholesterol Reductase Expression

The authors investigated changes of the vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) transcriptome by utilizing 3D human vascular organoids organized as a core of VSMCs enclosed by a monolayer of endothelial cells.

Expression and Functional Features of Kv7 Channels in Human Prostate Smooth Muscle

In human prostatic smooth muscle cells, KCNQ4, KCNQ5, and KCNE4 isoforms were predominantly expressed, while KCNQ1, KCNQ5, and KCNE3 isoforms were the most abundantly expressed in human prostatic tissues.
