Monoamine Oxidase A-dependent ROS Formation Modulates Human Cardiomyocyte Differentiation through AKT and WNT Activation

Scientists investigated whether reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by the mitochondrial flavoenzyme monoamine oxidase A played a role in cardiomyocyte differentiation from human-induced pluripotent stem cells.

Single-Cell Transcriptomics Reveal Extracellular Vesicles Secretion with a Cardiomyocyte Proteostasis Signature during Pathological Remodeling

Functional enrichment analysis pointed to an involvement of extracellular vesicle-related processes in the hearts of β-catΔex3 mice. Human induced pluripotent stem cells-derived cardiomyocytes subjected to pharmacological Wnt activation recapitulated the increased expression of exosomal markers.

Protective Effect of Urotensin II Receptor Antagonist Urantide and Exercise Training on Doxorubicin-Induced Cardiotoxicity

In vitro and in vivo assessments were performed using Doxorubicin (DOX)-treated H9C2 cells and rats. It was found that the urotensin II receptor antagonist, Urantide, and exercise training improved DOX-induced cardiac insufficiency and cardiomyocyte apoptosis.

Caloric Restriction Delays Age-Related Muscle Atrophy by Inhibiting 11β−HSD1 to Promote the Differentiation of Muscle Stem Cells

Researchers used a calorie restriction (CR) model with muscle-specific 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (11β-HSD1) knockout and overexpression to confirm that CR delayed muscle aging by inhibiting 11β-HSD1. Self-proliferation and differentiation of muscle fibers of muscle stem cells were observed in vitro.

Tensile Loaded Tissue Engineered Human Tendon Constructs Stimulate Myotube Formation

Investigators tested whether factors released by 3D-engineered human tendon constructs in response to uniaxial tensile loading could stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of human-derived myogenic cells.

A Phenotypic Screen of Marfan Syndrome iPSC-Derived Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells Uncovers GSK3β as a New Target

Researchers described a medium-throughput, unbiased small molecule screen to identify novel disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology.

A Par3/LIM Kinase/Cofilin Pathway Mediates Human Airway Smooth Muscle Relaxation by TAS2R14

Scientists established that the activation of the bitter taste receptor, TAS2R14, in human airway smooth muscle cells promoted relaxation through F-actin severing.

Co-Culture Models of Endothelial Cells, Macrophages, and Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells for the Study of the Natural History of Atherosclerosis

Investigators presented a fast, affordable, and reproducible three-cell co-culture system that could represent the different cellular mechanisms of atherosclerosis, extending from atherogenesis to pathological intimal thickening.

GATA6 Triggers Fibroblast Activation and Tracheal Fibrosis through the Wnt/β-Catenin Pathway

Researchers investigated the potential role of GATA6 as a novel regulator of tracheal fibrosis. It was found that GATA6 and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) were obviously increased in tracheal fibrotic granulations and in TGFβ1-treated primary tracheal fibroblasts.
