Superporous Poly(Ethylene Glycol) Diacrylate Cryogel with a Defined Elastic Modulus for Prostate Cancer Cell Research

A 3D superporous scaffold is described with thick pore walls in a mechanically stable and robust architecture to support prostate tumor growth. MicroRNA-449a Enhances Radiosensitivity by Downregulation of c-Myc in Prostate Cancer Cells

Researchers found that microRNA (miR)-449a enhanced radiosensitivity in vitro and in vivo by targeting c-Myc in prostate cancer (LNCaP) cells. MiR-449a was upregulated and c-Myc was downregulated in response to ionizing radiation in LNCaP cells. [Sci Rep] Full Article

Guttiferone K Impedes Cell Cycle Re-Entry of Quiescent Prostate Cancer Cells via Stabilization of FBXW7 and Subsequent c-MYC Degradation

Using reversible quiescence rendered by serum withdrawal or contact inhibition in PTEN^null/p53^WT or PTEN^null/p53^mut prostate cancer cells, the authors identified a compound that is able to impede cell cycle re-entry through c-MYC. Guttiferone K blocked resumption of DNA synthesis and preserved the cell cycle phase characteristics of quiescent cells after release from the quiescence. [Cell Death Dis] Full Article

Reduced Expression of the DNA Glycosylase Gene MUTYH Is Associated with an Increased Number of Somatic Mutations via a Reduction in the DNA Repair Capacity in Prostate Adenocarcinoma

Investigators showed that the expression levels of MUTYH mRNA and protein were significantly lower in prostate cancer than in non-cancerous prostatic tissue by examining two independent, publicly available databases and by performing an immunohistochemical analysis of prostate cancer specimens obtained at their hospital, respectively.
