PUBLICATIONS(Ranked by impact factor of the journal)LABORATORY RESEARCHLiver Protects Metastatic Prostate Cancer from Induced Death by Activating E-Cadherin Signaling Investigators reported that membrane surface E-cadherin-expressing prostate cancer cells were resistant to cell death by chemotherapeutic drugs, but E-cadherin null or those expressing E-cadherin only in the cytoplasm were sensitive to death signals and chemotherapies both in vitro and in vivo. [Hepatology] Abstarct | Full Article Scientists report the characterization of a multivalent conjugate presenting two bioactive ethisterone ligands arrayed as spatially defined pendant groups on a peptoid oligomer. The conjugate, named Multivalent Peptoid Conjugate 6, suppressed the proliferation of multiple androgen receptor (AR)-expressing prostate cancer cell lines including those that failed to respond to enzalutamide and ARN509. [Cancer Res] Abstract Researchers reported spontaneous metastasis of human prostate cancer xenografts which express high levels of galectin-4 along with genetic signatures of EGFR-HER2 signaling and O-glycosylation. [Cancer Res] Abstract To directly investigate the anti-tumor property, full length human recombinant ID4 encapsulated in biodegradable Polycaprolactone(PCL)/Maltodextrin nano-carrier was delivered to LNCaP cells in which the native ID4 was stably silenced. [Oncotarget] Full Article Scientists described a simple, rapid and inexpensive assay which combines robust isothermal amplification technique with a novel visualization method for evaluating urinary TMPRSS2:ERG status at less than USD 5 and with minimal equipment. [Sci Rep] Full Article The Utility of Urine-Circulating MiRNAs for Detection of Prostate Cancer Researchers evaluated the utility of urine-circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) as the potential biomarker of prostate cancer, the second most prevalent male cancer worldwide. [Br J Cancer] Full Article CLINICAL RESEARCHScientists investigated safety and overall survival in radium-223 treated patients in an early access program done after the ALSYMPCA study and before regulatory approval of radium-223. [Lancet Oncol] Full Article Investigators recently identified one patient showing a response from abiraterone despite expression of AR-V7 in his circulating tumor cells. They precisely assessed the response in a cohort of 21 AR-V7 positive castration-resistant prostate cancer patients who had received therapy with abiraterone or enzalutamide. They detected a subgroup of six AR-V7 positive patients showing benefit from either abiraterone or enzalutamide. [Eur Urol] Abstract Scientists evaluated the association of prostate specific antigen and androgen receptor splice variant-7 (AR-V7) transcript levels in patients’ blood with time to treatment failure and overall survival with abiraterone acetate and/or enzalutamide treatment in castration resistant prostate cancer patients. [Clin Cancer Res] Abstract Researchers found that no patient in the Sm-153-EDTMP alone arm achieved prostate-specific antigen (PSA) decline > 30% compared with four patients in the combination arm, including three with PSA decline > 50%. POLICY NEWSThe FDA Is Prohibited from Going Germline A potentially renewable provision of the Consolidated Appropriation Act of 2016 forestalling the prospect of human germline modification was signed into law on 18 December 2015. The provision has since been incorporated again into the House and Senate appropriation bills for the fiscal year ending 30 September 2017. [Science] Editorial US Agency Lifts Ban on Funding Human–Animal Hybrids Researchers in the United States will soon be able to resume creating chimera-based projects. [Nature] Editorial Russian Scientists Bracing for Massive Job Losses Russia’s scientific community is reeling from news that the government plans to fire about 10,000 researchers over the next three years.
