TGFβ2 and TGFβ3 Isoforms Drive Fibrotic Disease Pathogenesis

Researchers showed that the latent forms of TGFβ2 and TGFβ3 could be activated by integrin-independent mechanisms and have lower activation thresholds compared to TGFβ1. Unlike TGFB1, TGFB2 and TGFB3 expression was increased in human lung and liver fibrotic tissues compared to healthy control tissues.

Constitutive Transgenic Alpha-Klotho Overexpression Enhances Resilience to and Recovery from Murine Acute Lung Injury

A549 lung epithelial cells transfected with Klotho cDNA or vector were exposed to cigarette smoke; lactate dehydrogenase and double-strand DNA breaks were measured.

Poly-L-Arginine Promotes Asthma Angiogenesis through Induction of FGFBP1 in Airway Epithelial Cells via Activation of the mTORC1-STAT3 Pathway

Scientists demonstrated that fibroblast growth factor-binding protein 1 was dramatically upregulated in airway epithelial cell lines treated by poly-L-arginine, a mimic of major basic protein.

Epidermal Growth Factor Strongly Affects Epithelial Na+ Transport and Barrier Function in Fetal Alveolar Cells, with Minor Sex-Specific Effects

Researchers analyzed sex-specific fetal distal lung epithelial cells exposed to epidermal growth factor and related ligands with Ussing chambers, RT-qPCR and Western blots.

AKT3-Mediated IWS1 Phosphorylation Promotes the Proliferation of EGFR-Mutant Lung Adenocarcinomas through Cell Cycle-Regulated U2AF2 RNA Splicing

Scientists showed that exon 2 inclusion in the U2AF2 mRNA was a cell cycle-dependent process that was regulated by LEDGF/SRSF1 splicing complexes, whose assembly was controlled by the IWS1 phosphorylation-dependent deposition of histone H3K36me3 marks in the body of target genes.

The Integrated Stress Response Is Tumorigenic and Constitutes a Therapeutic Liability in KRAS-Driven Lung Cancer

Researchers demonstrated that integrated stress response was pivotal in lung adenocarcinoma development, the most common histological type of lung cancer and a leading cause of cancer death worldwide.

RASSF9 Promotes NSCLC Cell Proliferation by Activating the MEK/ERK Axis

Investigators examined the potential roles of RAS-associated domain family 9 in non-small cell lung cancer and the underlying mechanisms.

    ASCL1, NKX2-1, and PROX1 Co-Regulate Subtype-Specific Genes in Small Cell Lung Cancer

The authors integrated chromatin landscape and transcriptome analyses of patient-derived small cell lung cancer (SCLC) preclinical models to identify super-enhancers and their associated genes in the ASCL1-, NEUROD1-, and POU2F3-high SCLC subtypes.

Mapping Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma Pathogenesis through In Vitro and In Vivo Models

Scientists discuss how molecular profiling of premalignant lesions and invasive lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) has contributed to the refinement of in vitro and in vivo models, and in turn, how these systems have increased our understanding of LUSC biology and therapeutic vulnerabilities.
