Using single-cell RNA sequencing of duodenal iintestinal epithelial cells under germ-free and different conventional microbiota compositions, the authors showed that specific microbiota members altered epithelial homeostasis by increasing epithelial turnover rate, crypt proliferation, and major histocompatibility complex class II expression.
