Investigators found that phenyllactic acid (PLA) was detected in all prostate cancer cell lines. Further experiments showed that the addition of PLA to prostate cancer cells could promote ATP generation, enhance cysteine desulfurase expression, and reduce tumor necrosis factor alpha levels, thereby inhibiting apoptosis in prostate cancer cells.
