To test whether KRAB-zinc finger proteins can regulate cell fate by using ZFP819, which targeted a satellite DNA array, ZP3AR, investigators found that depleting ZFP819 in mESCs caused them to transition to a 2-cell-like state, whereby the ZP3AR array switched from a poised to an active enhancer state.
