Gaucher Disease Protects against Tuberculosis

Using a zebrafish Gaucher disease model, scientists found that the mutation GBA1 N370S, predominant among Ashkenazi Jews, increased resistance to tuberculosis through the microbicidal activity of glucosylsphingosine in macrophage lysosomes.
