Researchers evaluated the impact of MLL3/4 loss on chromatin and transcription during early differentiation of mESCs. They found that MLL3/4 activity was required at most if not all sites that gained or lost H3K4me1 but was largely dispensable at sites that remained stably methylated during this transition.
