Researchers showed that CD146 negatively regulated transendothelial migration in breast cancer. This inhibitory activity was reflected by a reduction in melanoma cell adhesion molecule (MCAM) gene expression and increased promoter methylation in tumor tissue compared to normal breast tissue.
