Scientists investigated the impact of apoptosis inhibition on the hemostatic functions and survival of cold-stored platelets (CSPs). They found that blocking the transduction of the apoptotic signal induced by glycoprotein Ib (GPIb)-alpha clustering or the activation of caspase 9 does not impair CSPs functionality.
