Investigators identified a role for Drosophila Perlecan in the maintenance of larval motoneuron axonal and synaptic stability. Loss of Perlecan caused alterations in the axonal cytoskeleton, followed by axonal breakage and synaptic retraction of neuromuscular junctions.
