NPC1 Plays a Role in the Trafficking of Specific Cargo to Melanosomes

Using a Niemann-Pick type C1 protein (NPC1) knock-out melanoma cell model, researchers found that the cellular phenotype of NPC was associated with a decreased pigmentation accompanied by low expression of the melanogenic enzyme tyrosinase.
