Researchers showed that human leukocyte antigen knockout (HLA KO) does not alter T-cell functionality in vitro and in vivo. While HLA KO abrogated allogeneic T-cell responses, it elicited NK-cell recognition. To circumvent this problem, they demonstrated that selective editing of individual HLA class I molecules in primary human T cells was possible.
