Researchers identified hepatocyte Hedgehog signaling as a central regulator of ferroptosis. Using mice with hepatocyte-specific deletion of Smoothened, a key Hedgehog pathway component, they showed that loss of hepatocyte Hedgehog signaling induces ferroptotic stress, lipid peroxidation, and cellular senescence.
