Researchers identified an EGF family member, EPIREGULIN (EREG), which was robustly expressed in the developing human crypt. Enteroids generated from the developing human intestine grown in standard culture conditions were dominated by stem and progenitor cells, featureed little differentiation and no spatial organization.
