Researchers showed that fatty acid synthase (FASN) expression was significantly reduced in the lungs of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patients and bleomycin (BLM)-treated mice. Overexpression of FASN significantly inhibited BLM-induced alveolar epithelial cell death, which was significantly potentiated by FASN knockdown.
