Researchers demonstrated that THP-1 monocytes and SupT1 T-cells exposed to Ebola virus (EBOV) undergo pyroptosis and necroptosis, respectively, through direct contact with EBOV, and also mediated pyroptosis or necroptosis of uninfected bystander cells via indirect effects associated with secreted soluble factors.
