The deepening knowledge of the chain of pathogenetic events involving endothelial cells, namely increased permeability, stiffening of the matrix, endothelial dysfunction, microvascular rarefaction, and tissue fibrosis, may provide a roadmap for therapeutic interventions deemed to curtail and reverse fibrosis.
