Smaug Regulates Germ Plasm Assembly and Primordial Germ Cell Number in Drosophila Embryos

Investigators identified mechanisms that subsequently regulated germ plasm assembly in the early embryo. They showed that the Smaug RNA binding protein was transported into the germ plasm of the early embryo where it accumulated in the germ granules.
