MSC therapy has gained interest as a disease-modifying strategy because its therapeutic activity appears to depend largely on paracrine signaling rather than durable engraftment. Through these mechanisms, MSCs may suppress profibrotic fibroblast activation, and recalibrate innate and adaptive immune responses.
