Decreased Blood Vessel Density and Endothelial Cell Subset Dynamics during Aging of the Endocrine System

Angiogenesis and β‐cell expansion in the pancreas were coupled by a distinct age‐dependent subset of endothelial cells (ECs). While this EC subpopulation supported pancreatic β cells, it declined during aging concomitant with increased expression of the gap junction protein Gja1.
