Epithelial GPR35 Protects from Citrobacter rodentium Infection by Preserving Goblet Cells and Mucosal Barrier Integrity
[Mucosal Immunology] Scientists showed that epithelial Gpr35 plays a critical role in goblet cell function. In mice, cell-type-specific deletion of Gpr35 in epithelial cells but not in macrophages resulted in goblet cell depletion and dysbiosis, rendering these animals more susceptible to Citrobacter rodentium infection.

miR-19a Targeting CLCA4 to Regulate the Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion of Colorectal Cancer Cells
[European Journal of Histochemistry] Researchers showed that the level of miR-19a was significantly higher in clinical CRC tissue samples than in paracancerous tissue samples, and significantly higher in CRC cells lines HT29, SW480, and CaCO2 than in the normal human colon mucosal epithelial cell line NCM460.

Bordetella pertussis-Infected Innate Immune Cells Drive the Anti-pertussis Response of Human Airway Epithelium
[Scientific Reports] Researchers investigated the epithelial cell response to B. pertussis infection in primary human airway epithelium differentiated at air–liquid interface.

Povidone Iodine Suppresses LPS-Induced Inflammation by Inhibiting TLR4/MyD88 Formation in Airway Epithelial Cells
[Scientific Reports] The authors explored the anti-inflammatory effects and underlying molecular mechanism of povidone-iodine (PVP-I) on lipopolysaccharide-stimulated airway epithelial cells and investigated whether nasal instillation of PVP-I could suppress mucosal inflammation in non-eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis mice.

Myoepithelial Progenitors as Founder Cells of Hyperplastic Human Breast Lesions upon PIK3CA Transformation
[Communications Biology] The myoepithelial lineage of human breast is comprised of bipotent and multipotent progenitors in ducts and terminal duct lobular units. The authors assessed whether this heterogeneity impacted on oncogenic PIK3CA transformation.

Human Biliary Epithelial Cells from Discarded Donor Livers Rescue Bile Duct Structure and Function in a Mouse Model of Biliary Disease
[Cell Stem Cell] The authors purified human biliary epithelial cells from human livers that were not used for liver transplantation.
