Investigators showed that dietary palmitic acid, but not oleic acid or linoleic acid, promoted metastasis in oral carcinomas and melanoma in mice. Tumor-associated Schwann cells secreted a specialized proregenerative ECM, the ablation of which inhibited metastasis initiation.
