The authors found that irisin pretreatment increased the cardiac homing of adipose tissue-derived MSCs administered by single and multiple intravenous injections to mice with myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (MI/R) by more than fivefold, which subsequently increased their antiapoptotic, proangiogenic, and antifibrotic effects in rats and mice that underwent MI/R.
