eceptors%20in%20the%20response%20to%20crowding-induced%20mechanical%20forces%20during%20embryonic%20skin%20development.%20Epidermal%20stem%20cells%20lacking%20B-plexins%20fail%20to%20sense%20mechanical%20compression%2C%20resulting%20in%20disinhibition%20of%20the%20transcriptional%20coactivator%20YAP%2C%20hyperproliferation%2C%20and%20tissue%20overgrowth.%20Mechanistically%2C%20we%20show%20that%20B-plexins%20mediate%20mechanoresponses%20to%20crowding%20through%20stabilization%20of%20adhesive%20cell%20junctions%20and%20lowering%20of%20cortical%20stiffness.%20Finally%2C%20we%20provide%20evidence%20that%20the%20B-plexin-dependent%20mechanochemical%20feedback%20is%20also%20pathophysiologically%20relevant%20to%20limit%20tumor%20growth%20in%20basal%20cell%20carcinoma%2C%20the%20most%20common%20type%20of%20skin%20cancer.%20Our%20data%20define%20a%20central%20role%20of%20B-plexins%20in%20mechanosensation%20to%20couple%20cell%20density%20and%20cell%20division%20in%20development%20and%20disease.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%222021-02-26%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22en%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1038%5C%2Fs41467-021-21513-9%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%222041-1723%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fwww.nature.com%5C%2Farticles%5C%2Fs41467-021-21513-9%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222021-02-26T19%3A17%3A16Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
